Turning Remembrance To Action

I just finished calling both my senators and my representative to ask them to support life saving HIV/AIDS funding! Simply calling and asking them to support the president’s budget request of 2.8 billion for PEPFAR and the Senate’s $700 million allocation for the Global Fund to fight TB, AIDS, and Malaria is a powerful way to use your voice. It took less than 5 minutes to call all three of my congressional leaders and let them know I want America to lead in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

It was especially meaningful for me to be able to take action on World AIDS Day because for me December 1st is the day I like to spend remembering and celebrating the lives of friends I have lost to this disease. Three years ago this week, my friend Wanda lost her battle to AIDS. While I mourn her loss every day, I also work hard to turn my remembrance into action and help those living with HIV/AIDS in Wanda’s name. So I did not just call for the over 1.2 million people currently alive because of HIV/AIDS medication provided through PEPFAR and the Global Fund, I called to honor the memory of my friend.

Please take a few minutes today to call your senators and representative because we can, and must, beat AIDS if we all work together as ONE.
