Yesterday we asked ONE members to contact their representatives in support of the “third-country fabric” provision of the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA).
If Congress doesn’t act on this before the close of session (now extended to this Saturday), as many as 150,000 Africans in the African apparel industry could lose their jobs. In order to pass, both the House and the Senate must pass bills before Saturday.
The House Bill, H.R. 6406, sponsored by California representative William Thomas, is slated for a vote this evening. We’ll keep you posted when (and if) it hits the floor.
We understand that a Senate bill is due to be dropped in the hopper soon. We’ll keep you posted on that as well.
If you haven’t already, please call and use our online tool to write your representatives and encourage them to pass AGOA. Passing the “third-country fabric” provision of AGOA is a clear way to help trade in the some of the world’s poorest countries.
