On American Idol last night, Ryan Seacrest announced “IDOL GIVES BACK,” a two night special, to air on April 24 and 25, to raise awareness and money for people living in extreme poverty.

On Tuesday, April 24, the top six remaining contestants will sing songs of hope and compassion, and every time someone votes for one of them, sponsors will donate money to charities including: Charity Projects Entertainment Fund (CPEF),
UNICEF,
The Global Fund, Save the Children,
Nothing But Nets
and Malaria No More.

The Wednesday, April 25, show will feature stars such as Gwen Stefani, Josh Groban, Pink, Michael Bublé, Annie Lennox, Il Divo and Sacha Baron Cohen, and the money raised will again go to organizations fighting poverty domestically and abroad.

Also, the American Idol site is carrying a large link to ONE.org, for people who want to learn more about our fight.

Commenting on the announcement Bono said “We’ll see worlds collide when Africa appears on America’s most-watched TV show. This is a big deal, a little bit of pop history … I wouldn’t underestimate the reach of this show or the impact its audience can have.”
