Clear Lake, Iowa, may have attracted some big names for their Fourth of July parade, but we made sure the millions living in extreme poverty around the world were also represented.

Presidential candidates Sen. Hillary Clinton and Gov. Mitt Romney were in attendance, as was former President Bill Clinton to show his support and walk with Sen. Clinton. Also walking in the parade were former Governor Tom Vilsack and his wife Christie, who both wore ONE bands along the route.

We walked the parade route with several ONE volunteers, handing out the fliers and bands. As we were walking down the route we spotted a sign that said, “Thank you for saving lives in Africa.” We stopped, took a picture, and handed them each ONE bands. Many people were very excited to see us walking down the street, shouting after us to say thanks for being there. At the end of the parade the Clintons stopped and shook hands with each of us, expressing gratitude for what we are doing and telling everyone to keep up the hard work. We were also able to get a group shot with them before they headed off. It was a great experience and a great day for the ONE Campaign.
