ONE Vote ’08’s launch got a great deal of coverage from the political blogosphere.

Below, some highlights:

Daily Kos:

“ONE Vote ‘08 is a non-partisan campaign to address global inequities in health and standard of living. Fueled by celebrities like Matt Damon and Bono, and with a slick launch, today is the opening salvo in what the organizers promise to be a sustained campaign to draw attention from Presidential contenders on both sides of the aisle.”

Instapundit:

“Bill Frist isn’t Senate Majority Leader any more, and he says he gets more respect when he goes by “Doctor” than when he goes by “Senator.” But he hasn’t given up on changing the world, and he’s working — with Tom Daschle — on a bipartisan program called One Vote ‘08, aimed at helping the people that Paul Collier calls the bottom billion.”

Listen to ONE Vote Co-Chair’s Doctor and Senator Frists interview with Instapundit on the Glenn and Helen podcast.

The Politico:

“In the history of PR, has there ever been a better nonprofit rollout than the one launched over the last few days by the One campaign? From AP to Redstate and every in ‘tween. You would almost think the folks handling the effort are former political operatives.”

Townhall:

“Gerson also added that he believes we are seeing a paradigm shift, in which religious conservatives will move away from some issues (I’m guessing he means issues like family values, etc.), and focus more on issues like poverty, etc. Sen. Daschle added that he believed the paradigm shift is based on a realization that there is a direct connection between global poverty and disease and our security interests.

Sen. Frist went on to add: “You don’t go to war with someone who just saved your children,”…

Lastly, it is good that One Vote ‘08 gave bloggers an opportunity to hear these arguments for themselves. Clearly, they realize the importance of tapping into the new media …”

Think Progress:

“Today, ThinkProgress attended a briefing with the ONE Vote ‘08 co-chairs, former Senate Majority Leaders Tom Daschle (D-SD) and Bill Frist (R-TN), along with advisers Michael Gerson and John Podesta. All participants stressed that the fight against global poverty is necessary to ensure America’s national security. Daschle stated that the “new paradigm” of national security extends beyond military power.”

Fire Dog Lake:

“We spoke yesterday about issues of poverty in America — which are daunting and in need of much discussion and thought from eyars of neglect and inaction. But the issues of global poverty also impact all of us: it is the despair and anger and hatred born out of desperation which fuels so much of the conflict around the world. This is an issue where America has been leading for years in terms of dollars put into programs, but we have barely scratched the surface in terms of putting the hearts and minds of the American public to work on solving our own nation’s problems with poverty and health care access, let alone those of the world around us. Imagine, for a moment, what we could do if someone led the way on this?”

Red State:

“We all agree that these critical steps need to be taken – Republican and Democrat alike. I want my kids, Kate and Henry, to grow up in a better, safer world. Helping those that need it most not only sets an example I want my family to see – it also save lives and in a roundabout way increases our security here at home. Making my children safer by helping others, well that’s good sense, not just good politics.”

America Blog:

“The global anti-poverty effort, the ONE Campaign, held a small meeting this morning for a few bloggers from the right and the left with the new campaign co-chairs, former Senator Majority Leaders Tom Daschle (D-SD) and Bill Frist (R-TN). The campaign is launching a $30 million effort to influence the 2008 elections here in the US by getting all the presidential candidates to endorse the following goals…”

Captain’s Quarter’s:

“Today on CQ Radio (2 pm CT), former Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist joins us at the top of the hour. Senator Frist launched his effort on behalf of ONE Vote ‘08 today, complete with a guest post here at Captain’s Quarters, and we’ll talk about his plans for African aid and his post-retirement plans as well. At 2:30, we’ll welcome Matt Lewis of Townhall, who attended the event today in Washington DC, for his perspective on the event and the project.”

Matthew Ygelsias:

“Naturally, this [Bipartisanship] came up a lot in a small meeting I and some other bloggers attended with Bill Frist, Tom Daschle, John Podesta, and Michael Gerson who are, I guess, the key symbols of bipartisanship. I came away fairly convinced.”

Crooks and Liars

You Can Help Change The World. Christy at FireDogLake shares how by working with ONEVote08, you can make a difference.

The Washington Note:

“The ONE Campaign has done a remarkable job raising the profile of these issues generally over the past few years, and in a bipartisan way. By any measure, the Campaign has exceeded expectations.”

What a result! Inspiring work – it is a real privilege to be a volunteer for ONE. This is not a cause, it is a movement. It is time to redouble our efforts and finish the job – it is time for OneVote’08!

    Hey Josh -

since we’re talking about meeting candidates at public forums and showing up with our ONE shirts and whitebands, I noticed that the Campaign Tracker on the ONE Vote ‘08 site DIDN’T HAVE LISTED JOHN EDWARDS VISIT TO AUSTIN TX LAST NIGHT!

I check the Campaign Tracker daily now to see if candidates will be in my area but this appearance by Edwards was not listed on the ONE Vote ‘08 site.

To say the least, I was VERY DISAPPOINTED because it’s VERY IMPORTANT as candidates come through the South that they see ONE supporters down here too so that they know that ONE is TRULY around the entire USA.~

So what can be done to better track the candidates as they come through this part of the country? I don’t want to miss another Presidential candidate opportunity to meet up with ONE supporters down here again.

Any help that ONE can give us on this would be quite appreciated.

Also, I’m disappointed that EDWARDS WAS NOT WEARING HIS ONE BAND LAST NIGHT. The picture of him in the newspaper today clearly shows him without a white band on. I thought that y’all should know this.

Take very good care of each other, my friends at ONE. Blessings will always be around.

ALWAYS ONE in the Spirit, debbie :)

    Debbie,

We’re still building out the tool, but if you know an event is going to happen and don’t see it in the trackr send an email to onevote08@one.org and let’s see if we can get it up. Keep watch… because we hope to add lots of features to this tool.

I have faith that ONE will build the best Campaign Tracker possible, Josh.

I actually think that it’s a BRILLIANT IDEA and that’s why I’m contacting y’all about it. I just want us to utilize the idea to its maximum positive effect for the world’s poorest people.

I know that ONE does too.~

Take very good care of each other, my friends at ONE. Blessings are always around.

ALWAYS ONE in the Spirit, debbie :)
