Taking it to the street: The ONE Street Tweeter

By Roxane.Philson

One of the biggest creative challenges we face is finding ways to adequately express the spirit and strength of our amazing membership — And more than this, to maximize the impact of member voices to push for the positive changes we are all seeking to achieve. Combine this scenario with a message-saturated G8 Summit and you’ll understand why we’ve had to find something extraordinary to do next week… Ahem, cue Tweet the Street

We have been hard at work with some tech wizards to create the ONE Street Tweeter – a mobile, tweet-fed, hydraulic robot that uses non-toxic, water soluble, paint to print nearly real-time tweets-tweetetes if you will, (40 characters or less) on road surfaces.

This is what it looks like:

Yes – we want to take your messages on the road. Better still, if we print your message we’ll even send a pic of it back to you to share it with your friends.

So, what are you waiting for? You guys are more creative than any of those Mad Men types. Just tweet a message in your own words (no more than 40 characters including spaces) to encourage, rouse, and hustle the G8 to act now on hunger and poverty.

Tweet your message to @ONEStreetTweet or if you don’t do that sort of thing then you can type your message into the box below.

Let’s hit the road and get heard.

ONE Global Creative Director Roxane Philson shares a behind-the-scenes look at our new video, “A Future Free from Famine.” Tell her what you think in the comments below.

Today we are releasing a new animated video, “A Future Free from Famine,” to show that with the right investments, it is possible to see a future without famine — and with G20 leaders set to meet in Paris next week the timing is not a moment too soon.

Bill Gates

How to sum up the last three days in Europe?

Stamina.

Not mine, but Bill Gates’… It’s unreal. He flew in overnight on Sunday, and in just two and a half days travelled to three cities, delivered three powerful Living Proof presentations, lobbied Presidents, Chancellors, and Ministers, gave numerous media interviews and rallied activists. He is a testament to the ability of a committed person to change the world. Of course, he has a few more resources at his disposal than most – but all the more impressive to think he could just be sat on a yacht sipping down piña coladas.

Bill Gates presents Living Proof in Paris

Last night ONE hosted a Living Proof event in Paris event aimed at convincing French politicians that development is worth their investment, and that they should stick to their promise of reaching 0.7% of Gross National Income on development assistance by 2015.

Bill Gates, graffiti and Living Proof in Paris

Today, Bill Gates met up with local ONE members in Paris to help raise awareness for our Living Proof campaign through street art. ONE staffer Roxane Philson reports.

As a ONE member, you can never be sure what you’ll be doing in the name of fighting extreme poverty — it can have some funny twists. One day you might be calling your government to stop proposed budget cuts and the next you might be working with Bill Gates in Paris to promote action on vaccines. Ok, it doesn’t happen THAT often, but for a few of our French members today, that was their experience…

It’s nice to get some good news every now and again… to be reminded of why our efforts are having impact on saving and improving real lives.

This week, with the help of Bill and Melinda Gates, we launched Living Proof – and I’d love you to take a look at some films if you get a moment. Let us know what you think, and, if you are so inclined, please share with friends, colleagues, loved ones…

At under two minutes, this video is just a nugget of the proof—poke around the Living Proof website and you’ll find real people making real progress.

If you are feeling adventurous I’d strongly encourage you to watch the full presentation from Bill and Melinda; it’s both evidence-based and heart-warming and an hour well spent. I learned a great deal and it’s certainly better than some of the television shows I’ll be watching this weekend.

Thanks for helping spread the good news—you really are making a big difference in the fight against poverty and injustice

P.S. Ahead of the presentation Bill and Melinda Gates answered questions from ONE members around the world. Keep an eye out for their answers in the coming days
