On tour in South Africa, Daughtry visited the US-supported Anovo Clinic and the Nike Training Center in Soweto with ONE’s Africa Director Sipho Moyo. Anova Clinic focuses on the prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV, and the Nike Training Center is a place where children in Soweto train for soccer and learn more about HIV prevention and treatment — Nike is a partner of (RED). In South Africa on tour, Daughtry and ONE African Director Dr. Sipho Moyo visit the U.S.-supported Anova Clinic in Zoyo, Soweto, which focuses on the prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV.
Alterna-rockers and longtime ONE supporters Daughtry have been doing some major representing for ONE this past week — and we wanted to take the chance to thank them here on the ONE blog.
Although the band has a seriously crazy schedule filled with press interviews, TV appearances, gigs and all the trappings of fame and stardom, they’ve always found the time to express their commitment to ending extreme poverty and preventable disease.
And this week, celebrity gossip blog PopEater came out with an awesome multimedia story on a day in the life of Daughtry. Scrolling through the video and photos, we were absolutely psyched to see that lead vocalist Chris Daughtry sported a ONE band throughout the day.

Just got back from the Daughtry concert at the Today Show. ONE volunteers from around New York poured in to show support for the band and help raise awareness about our issues. Josh Steely from the band was even sporting a ONE t-shirt! It was really cool to see so many supports and volunteers gather in the early morning to enjoy great music and raise awareness. This morning, you may have caught Daughtry’s live performance on The Today Show. Daughtry are long-time supporters of ONE, so ONE members turned out in force in ONE shirts rocking out with the band. Our own Matthew McAllister was in attendance and will be reporting back shortly about what he saw and heard this morning.
ONE members had a blast this weekend at the Daughtry shows in Hershey, Penn., and the Tropicana Showroom in Atlantic City, N.J. As fans arrived at both venues, our ONE teams shared information about ONE’s work in the fight against extreme poverty and preventable, treatable diseases in the world’s poorest countries.
We also got Chris Daughtry himself to retweet us on Twitter: “Very awesome!!! RT @barbiedoll869: @CHRIS_Daughtry ONE team got 482 new members tonight!”
Not only were we able to raise awareness for ONE this weekend, but we also added more than 600 new members! Big thanks to Daughtry and their terrific fans for two great nights!

ONE volunteers came together for the Daughtry show in Trenton, NJ on Sunday to sign up new ONE members. Although it was a very hot day, everyone was excited and got busy raising awareness about ONE and our fight against extreme poverty and preventable, treatable diseases in the worlds poorest countries.
Fans from all over the tri-state area were eager to sign up to help! By the end of the evening, we had over 360 new ONE members. Big thanks to all the volunteers and to Daughtry!
“Small but might”. That was the theme for my first ONE volunteer effort Tuesday evening at the Daughtry concert at the Sprint Center in my hometown of Kansas City, Missouri. I met up with Libby, our Regional Field Director, and two other volunteers to spread the word about ONE to excited Daughtry fans. As we were getting ready the band walked by and waved hello to ONE members and thanked us for being there! We were lucky enough to get a picture with the guys before the show and each band member demonstrated his appreciation of ONE and the volunteers for the evening with a big hug for each of us and a sincere thank you for all that ONE does on behalf of the world’s poorest people.
The importance of Daughtry’s support of ONE’s vision was obvious as we began interacting with the concert goers, too. Before long, another several hundred members had eagerly pledged their support, with the majority coming from fellow ONE newbie, Cory.
It was so rewarding to be a part of engaging others in the fight against extreme poverty and preventable diseases. It’s proof, once again, that a small group of dedicated individuals can make a difference. If you haven’t joined ONE yet, I definitely recommend looking for a volunteer opportunity in your area. I promise you’ll be hooked. I know I am!
