The 2010 football World Cup in South Africa was hugely exciting, and not just for sports fans. It was a great opportunity for the world to see Africa and the citizens of African nations in a new light. It helped focus the eyes of the world, including the three billion or more who will watch the competition, on Africa and on the good news that's coming from the continent.
Tens of millions more African children are in school and millions more are being protected from killer diseases because of African leadership in the last few years. Together, in a renewed partnership to boost opportunity and combat poverty across Africa, we can celebrate but then accelerate this tremendous progress.
Our goal is for Africa to beat extreme poverty and achieve the Millennium Development Goals and each of our partners' campaigns is a great contribution towards achieving these visionary goals.
